Gluten Free Soup

You may be wondering if there is gluten free soup available. In fact, there are number of gluten free soups out there.

There are many soups that contain gluten. Gluten is found in certain grains like wheat, rye, and barley. Pasta is usually made from wheat flour, so soups containing noodles like chicken noodle soup, pasta e fagoli, and zuppa di minestrone contain gluten. Italian wedding soup is usually made with breadcrumbs, so it also has gluten in it. Beef barley soup contains barley, of course, so it contains gluten. Some soups are thickened with flour, generally wheat flour, which contains gluten. Broccoli cheese soup may be made with cheese that contains gluten, although not all cheese contains gluten.

It is not difficult to make a gluten free soup version of those favorites that typically contain gluten. You can use pasta that is made from corn or rice or potatoes instead of wheat. You can use gluten free breadcrumbs or gluten free flours like potato starch or cornstarch.

There are also many gluten free soups that are typically gluten free. You don’t have to make any substitutions.
