Vitamins For Energy

We need vitamins for energy.  There are a number of important energy vitamins, but B vitamins are especially important.  For someone who has low energy levels, simply adding a B-complex vitamin supplement to the daily diet can make a big difference.  There are other vitamins and minerals necessary for energy, though.  Read on to learn about some of them.

Vitamins for Energy

The following energy vitamins are important to consider if you are lacking in energy.

Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
Thiamine does many things in body, including giving us energy and creating mental awareness.  People lacking in thiamine may experience weakness, fatigue, and depression, along with other symptoms.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
Riboflavin also gives us energy.  People lacking in riboflavin often feel sluggish and tired.  Other symptoms of deficiency can occur as well.

Vitamin B3 (niacin)
Niacin is yet another of the energy vitamins.  People lacking in niacin often experience weakness, fatigue, and depression, along with other symptoms.

Vitamin B7 (biotin)
Biotin also helps us have energy.  People lacking in biotin often feel extremely drowsy and depressed.

Vitamin B9 (folic acid)
We need folic acid for energy and for the production of red blood cells.  People lacking in folic acid may become anemic.  Anemia is a disorder in which we lack iron (carried by red blood cells).  It causes severe fatigue.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 helps produce red blood cells, which prevents anemia.  Vitamin B12 also improves memory and concentration.  People lacking in vitamin B12 often experience anemia and chronic fatigue, along with other symptoms.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant.  It does many things in the body, including boost the immune system and aid in the healing process.  People lacking in vitamin C may experience anemia and muscle weakness.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D helps us absorb calcium and helps the thyroid gland function properly.  People deficient in vitamin D often experience a lack of energy.

Calcium is best known for its role in bone health, but it also helps our endocrine and nervous systems function properly.  People lacking in calcium my experience fatigue and mental confusion, as well as brittle bones.

Iron is one of the minerals we need for energy.  Lack of iron leads to anemia, which causes extreme fatigue.  Lack of iron can also cause mental slowness.

Magnesium is another mineral that we need for energy, among other things.  People lacking in magnesium may experience weakness and fatigue.

As you can see, many, though not all, of these energy vitamins are B vitamins.  That’s why taking a B-complex vitamin supplement can help.

Multi Vitamins for Energy

If you think you need some vitamins for energy, you might want to start with a good multi-vitamin/multi-mineral supplement.  This will give you plenty of the vitamins listed above as well as other vitamins and minerals you need.  If a good multi-vitamin/multi-mineral supplement doesn’t seem to do the trick, you might want to add a B-complex.  If that doesn’t do it, it might be time to see your doctor to have some blood work done.  This can tell you if you are lacking in any important energy vitamins or minerals so you can supplement with those directly.
